Wig Out

This picture speaks for itself but let me just add three points about this photo. A) Hee, it kinda looks real in a freaky way. B) When I put this wig on Katie and Addie saw her he said, "it looks just like your hair mom!" Uh thanks for that. Yikes. C) I wish Katie's hair would grow faster.

Picnics in the Park

Yes, those are Fritos clutched in Katie's hand because on Saturday we had a little picnic in the park. We always try to get out and do something fun on Saturday with the kids, sometimes if we are short on time because of other commitments we just go to the park and eat and play. Jason and I sometimes forget how much they love just being outside and playing. They can be as loud and wild as they like without any comments from us.

Motivation

Since today was Dr. Seuss's birthday Noah got to wear his pj's to school. He chose his spider man ones and had a great time. Addie's current favorite book is Horton Hears a Who. We read it often and the story, along with The Lorax, has always been one of my favorites. When we get to the part where the Mayor of Whoville gives the little shirker Jo-jo his speech I always get a tear in my eye......EVERY time. I do try not to but I am a sucker for motivational speeches, as Jason would tell you, anytime we see a movie and there is a speech about courage and the greater good, if he looks over I have tears in my eyes. No matter how dumb the movie is. Addie asked me why and I just tell him that what the Mayor says is so true. Though it hardly has the same impact as when you have been reading the book and are engrossed in the plight of the whos and the impending beezle-nut oil stew, here it is:
“This,” cried the Mayor, “is your towns darkest hour!

The time for all Whos who have blood that is red

To come to the aid of their country!” he said.

“We’ve GOT to make noises in greater amounts!

So, open your mouth, lad! For every voice counts!”

A Baby's Work is Never Done

Katie loves wearing sunglasses. She comes over to me to have me put them on and then she leaves them on for such a long time that most of the time I'm the one that takes them off. Maybe she thinks they make her look smarter or will make us take her more seriously? Either way the boys and I get a big laugh over it.

We have one of these at our house on our fridge and all the accompanying letters that it entails. Katie is constantly busy at work hiding these letters in every drawer, cupboard, empty bowl, shelf, basically anywhere she thinks they are needed. She is so serious about this job and every time I am busy cleaning or cooking in the kitchen she is working on this. Whenever I find the letters I put them back on the fridge. She probably feels that this job will never be done. Sometimes she gets tired of this and then she will pull all of the zip lock sandwich bags out of their box or mess around with things in the pantry. Yesterday at dinner she was really anxious to get down and play and Jason and I were putting words in her mouth, as we often like to do.
Katie: "I can't sit here relaxing, these magnets aren't going to move themselves and don't even get me started on the chips that still need to be crushed in the pantry."

Singing the endless cough blues

Wow I took an unexpected hiatus from the blogging world due to illness. Seriously everyone over at our place has been really sick! The kids were up most of the nights last week in insane coughing fits. Katie was sick for soooo long I finally took her in to the doctor and she was down to 17.5 pounds! Poor little thing. We are all just starting to feel better and I have been trying to catch up on all my housework, grocery shopping, and just general chores and errands. Nothing like cleaning up barf all week and being up all night with coughing kids to make you realize how wonderful having everyone healthy really is.
Before the onset of the flu over here we had a great time having Grandma and Grandpa come for a visit. The boys were so thrilled to get to be with them, the are always so excited. We played games, glow golfed, and even got them to play some guitar hero. Lloyd really rocked! Hopefully they will forgive us for giving them the very bad cold they got when they returned home!! It's always tons of fun to be with them and with Mike, Melissa, and Beckham.
I think Addie had a hard time going back to school today after having taken a week off, because his teacher told me that Adam forgot his "listening ears" at home. Little does she know he actually doesn't have any. Kidding, but when she asked him why he wasn't listening he said it was because of his mom. No explanation, just because of his mom. The only thing I have to say about that is Adam's inner mind is inaccessible to me at this point which is too bad because I would LOVE to see what's going on in there.

Who are all these kids, and why are they calling me Mom?

As part of their spelling test Noah's class has to write one of the spelling words in a sentence. Noah decided to use the word sheep and here is the sentence he wrote:
"Will you eat some sheep with me." Heh. I'm sure the teacher was wondering what kind of things we eat for dinner around here.

When it's time to pick Noah up from school we wait in the car in the turn around for him to come out. Addie always climbs up in the passenger seat and yesterday he was measuring his height against the top of the seat. Then he told me, "I'm almost a big giant man." Me: "Please no, don't be a big man, I want you to be my little boy." Him: "Sorry no, only two more birthdays and I will be a big giant man."

Today I was talking to my sister on the phone and while we were talking I was reminding the kids to do different things, practice the piano, homework, clean their room, etc. She said, you really sound like a mom over there today. It's strange because most times I can't believe that I am a mom. Seems like it would be hard to forget considering most of my daily conversation revolves around Spongebob Squarepant or the Mario Brothers, but sometimes, like when I am giving the babysitter instructions for the night I stop and think...wow look at me-the mom!

Katie Vs. The Humidifier

Katie hasn't been feeling well the past couple of days. She has a cold and is constantly coughing and has a stuffy nose. In an attempt to win back some of our sleep Jason went and bought her a humidifier and tonight I set it up for her. She was playing in her room and I brought it in and was filling it with water from a pitcher. She was very interested in the whole process. This particular model has a really great built in green night light, and so when I turned it on it lit up. Katie did not like the feature at all. As soon as it lit up and she could see steam coming out of it she was pretty horrified. I am not sure why she was so scared of it but she would not settle down in her crib she just kept staring at the thing until I finally took it out of her room.

Addie had a little adventure of his own today. He stayed home with Jason while I took Noah to piano lessons, and when I got home and came upstairs I could smell Addie from a mile away. He smelled like some kind of ointment and upon closer inspection he was literally COVERED, hair and all, in some kind of jelly stuff. I managed to get out of him the tube he had used to butter himself up with, it was Baby Orajel. We can only assume that he was basically numb all over tonight. Ah, the experiments Addie has conducted, he's only four and has already tried so many things the rest of us may never get the chance to.
