Saturday Dinner

On Saturday we went over to my parents house for my mom's mother's day dinner. We had a yummy BBQ and then, because the weather was so nice, we went on a walk down to the beach. We always have so much fun when we are all together. The kids are in heaven with so many people to play with and it was fun to celebrate Mom. We really love her.
I took TONS of pictures, couldn't resist the lovely light, and as you can see if you scroll down I already posted two more new posts. I am also going to put a couple new ones on my photo blog.

Papa

Katie and Papa make quite a pair. He gives her what she wants and she loves him for it. Just kidding-she loves him very much though. Whenever I say "we are going to Grammy's house" she adds......"and papa."

Cousin Lizzy

Does Missy love her cousin Lizzy?? Yes..... a lot. She was very excited by the idea of getting to "hold" her. Lizzy's yummy chubiness reminds me of Katie when she was that old. Just makes you want to eat her up.

Happy Mother's Day

I am speaking on Sunday about a mother's role in the family. In preparing for my talk I have been reading lots of talks that the brethren have given about motherhood and the importance of mothers. I believe with all my heart the words of Sister Hinckely:

“It is the mothers of young children I would like to address first. These are golden years for you. These are years when you will probably do the most important work of your lives. Don’t wish away your years of caring for small children. Life is what happens to you while you are making other plans. This is a time of great opportunity for you to build the kingdom. When you teach children to love their Heavenly Father, you have done one of the greatest things you will ever do."

It's hard for me to talk about motherhood as a big sacrifice; and maybe it felt more like one when I was up all night with a new baby, or maybe it will later when I have the worry of having teenagers; but to me motherhood is the most incredible blessing. I haven't found it to be an unending sacrifice of myself, but motherhood has made me my true self and my best self. I am a mom. I can't believe I have such amazing kids. It's hard to believe how much I love them, at times so much I think my heart will explode. Everyday I am with them I know and feel how important my work as a mom is. The brethren have called mothers: the heart of the home, the keeper of the hearth, the great defenders of the family, guardian of the home, and partners with God. Being a mom is my greatest joy and my most important work and there just aren't words to write the gratitude in my heart. Happy Mom's day to all you great mommas out there!!

Dear Lord, it's such a hectic day
With little time to stop and pray
For life's been anything but calm
Since You called on me to be a mom
Running errands, matching socks
Building dreams with building blocks
Cooking, cleaning, and finding shoes
And other stuff that children lose
Gitting lids on bottled bugs
Wiping tears and giving hugs
A stack of last week's mail to read
So where's the quiet time I need?
Yet when I steal a minute, Lord
Just at the sink or ironing board
To ask the blessings of Your grace
I seen then, in my small one's face
That you have blessed me
All the while
And I stop to kiss
That precious smile

Cookies Anyone?

Today I got to go to Addie's school for a Mother's day Lunch. It was fun to be with him and hear the songs he had been learning. We ate muffins, goldfish, and cheese slices. The best part of all was that the teachers had the children fill out a question sheet, sort of an all about mom. It was funny because about 50% of Addie's answers were "making cookies." What is your mom's favorite thing to do: make cookies. What do you and your mom like to do together: make cookies. What kind of things does your mom cook: cookies. And finally what does your mom do to show you she loves you? Make cookies. My guess is that he was really hungry when they asked these questions, or he just really likes cookies. Either way I'll keep the cookies coming, because hey if that's what it takes to show him I love him, I'm on it. Cause I really do love him a trillion cookies worth.

Potty Training

That's right. It's little pink undies over here. How cute is that little bum. She is doing good, she started wearing underwear on Tuesday and she didn't have a single accident today. I guess that is one of the benefits of having waited a little longer. It's still diapers for nap and bedtime, but with the undies on board now all we need to do is move her into her bed. I think some pretty princess bedding is going to make that a cinch. When she goes peeps in the potty she always tells me, "I'm a big girl and go pee pee in the potty." Well I guess now I'll go cry myself to sleep because in complete disregard to her mother's wishes my sweet baby girl is growing up. Sigh.
